Benefits Of Chocolate That You May Not Have Known

Whoever said you should never eat chocolate, was wrong.

Made from the seed of the cocoa tree, chocolate is one of the best sources of antioxidants on the planet. We are talking about dark chocolate (not the sugary crap), and in moderation, of course. Here are two awesome reasons why Dark Chocolate is a guilt-free treat.

1. Dark Chocolate Improves Your Blood Flow and Lowers Blood Pressure

The flavonoids, or more commonly known, the plant-based nutrients found in dark chocolate, stimulate the endothelium, (the lining of our arteries) to produce Nitric Oxide (NO), which is a gas. One of the main functions of NO is to send signals to our arteries to relax. When our arteries relax, we have a lower resistance to blood flow. In turn, this reduces blood pressure.

2.Dark Chocolate contains Antioxidants

Dark chocolate is an excellent source of antioxidants. Antioxidants are chemicals that occur naturally in foods that act to counter the negative effects of free radicals circulating in our bodies. Free radicals affect the growth, repair and duplication of our cells, and are therefore implicated in the aging process. When this gets out of hand, it ca icnrease the aging process of your cells, and cause excessive, uncontrolled growth of cells; also know as cancer. Antioxidants help free your body of these frees radicals, through an oxidation process, causing damage to these cells. But by reducing the amount of free radical cells circulating in the body, from eating dark chocolate for example, you can slow down the aging process, help protect yourself from excessive uncontrolled growth of cells.

*To get the benefits, make sure the cocoa content is 65% or greater.
