Whilst our over indulgence feels good at the time, it can feed negativity. Too much chocolate and too many roasted potatoes, with the need for baggy clothing and the avoidance of the mirror can be a downward spiral, where we then hate our summer bodies. Winter brings the cold, illness, the blues and lack of motivation. Here at The Yummy Mummy Club we know that staying on track in the colder weather, although is challenging, is very beneficial, perhaps more beneficial than at any other time throughout the year!
Common Winter Diet Mistakes
1. Drinking less water
With colder weather we tend drink less water compared to warmer months. One reason could be because we tend to do less physical activity in the colder months, so we think we do not need to drink the recommended amount required. This is not true! We still need to keep hydrated during the cold days! My tip to you ,is to try warm or hot water options This still counts towards your fluid intake. I am not referring to increasing your caffeine intake though. Less water and more caffeine will increase dehydration. Why not try a herbal tea, a hot soup or my favourite, hot lemon water?
2. Eating for comfort
The colder season is when we often turn towards comfort foods. Together with a decrease in exercise, no-wonder we feel more sluggish and usually gain weight. My tip to you is to firstly keep you exercise routine on track, and eat more fresh foods rather than fried foods! You will be surprised just how ‘comfy’ a fresh bowl of hot soup or a warm veggie salad can actually be!
3. Thinking it will be easy to lose our winter weight gain
Just a couple of weeks of overeating and being less active can have weight gain effects that last for months and even years. My tip is to simply not use winter as an excuse to eat whatever you want! You need to be mindful of what you are eating during the colder months just like you are during the warmer months. Keep track of how much you are exercising to help you keep any winter weight gain under control. With the weight loss industry, constantly telling us how easy it is to lose weight and that everything will just melt away in a flash, deep down we all know just how hard it is to lose weight.
With the colder weather here to stay, it is important to remember your goals. Hopefully now being aware of the common mistakes we unknowing may be making, we are one step closer to staying on track.
