We put a lot of effort into our workouts, but if we do not fuel ourselves correctly post workout, we will not get the results we aim for. Most of us put a lot of thought into what we should or should not eat pre workout, but it is just as important to be aware of what we consume post workout.
When we go to the gym we use our glycogen stores, for instant energy, which results in glycogen depletion. When we finish a workout, our bodies need more glycogen to repair. We can support this post workout process by eating the right foods post workout and proving our body with the extra energy it needs for rebuilding and repairing. We do this by consuming both protein and carbohydrate foods.
What to Eat Post Workout:
The primary aim of our post workout meal is to give our bodies the right nutrients for maximum recovery and growth.
Here is a list of some of my favourite post workout proteins and carbohydrates:
- White Cheeses
- Lean meats and fish
- Sweet Potato
- Wholemeal Bread & Pasta
