Snacking & Weight Loss

Snacking, as part of a healthy and balanced diet has been immensely discussed. Here at The Yummy Mummy Club, we believe snacking can, and should be part of a healthy diet and lifestyle. Snacking helps us regulate our blood sugar levels and maintain an efficient metabolism. But we do need to be careful, snacking will be a barrier to a healthy manageable weight, if we consume snacks that are high in sugar, calorie dense, and lacking in nutrients.

Why do we snack? To stop is from us from reaching a starvation state, so we do not over eat and binge at our main meals. We snack to keep our hormones regulated, and to help us keep focused.

Tips for healthy snacking:

1. When you want to snack, make sure you are snacking because you are hungry. Snacking out of habit, or from being bored and stressed will lead to weight gain.

2. Be conscious of what and when you are eating when you are snacking. Take notice of what is you are eating. Eat while sitting down, away from your work desk or television at home. When we eat without realising: “eating amnesia,” we usually overeat.

3. Nutritionally balanced snacks are essential. At the Yummy Mummy Club, we suggest snacks should be high in protein, and low in carbohydrate. This will help you feel fuller for longer.
