Spring Seasonal Eating

Spring is almost here, and it is one of our favourite times of the year. With spring comes warmer weather and longer days. Our moods seem to be better and our motivation seems to improve, which means we are focused reaching our goals.

Spring is a great time to expand our horizons of exercising more and eating well, so why not take it a step further and consider seasonal eating. Eating “in season”, means eating foods that are being grown and harvested at the specific time of the year they are grown, produced and sold. And although it is a trendy thing to be doing, there are also benefits to eating seasonally.

Why We Should Consider Spring Seasonal Eating

At The Yummy Mummy Club we are all for eating more veggies. We know that eating more veggies has many health benefits. Vegetables offer us many nutrients and vitamins which can help us stay on track with our goals. Eating vegetables can also help fight against disease, and generally just make us feel better. By eating season foods, we are more likely to eat more veggies, as well as eat more variety.

Seasonal foods are at their peak nutrition; which is our number one reason for eating seasonally. Our second reason for seasonal eating is that it allows for us to widen our range of food choices, specifically when it comes to fruits and vegetables, allowing us to consume a greater range of nutrients and vitamins. Our third reason for seasonal eating is that it supports local farmers, which is always a win, and our final reason is that seasonal fruit and vegetables and generally cheaper too.
