Meal prep does not have to be something you want to dread. It Meal prep is a method that can be used by anyone who wants to improve their diet and reach their goals. It can also be a very time smart activity, instead of you having to make last minute trips to the grocery store every couple days. Meal planning can have many benefits for mums and families. Meal planning can help save money and time. Figuring out what to cook each day can be stressful, so here are some meal prepping tips:
1. Once a week, take a few moments to sit down and plan out your weekly meals. By make a list of the dishes you will make, will help you create your shopping list at the same time. Our suggestion is to designate every night of the week to a different meal. This way you can still get variety in your dinners. For example, Monday night could be meatless night and Tuesday night could be chicken night and so on.
2. The day before you go to the supermarket, do a thorough look through your pantry and refrigerator. There may be something in there that you forgot you had, or that wasn’t used last week, or on the other hand, you may think you have something when you do not.
3. Know how much food you need for what you are making. Each week this will get easier, and become less time costly. Knowing which meals and which days you will be preparing meals for will make this step easier too. For example, some find that they only want to prep their lunches, and have breakfast and dinner at home. And then once you know how much you will need, make a few extra portions and place them in the freeze. Meals such as soups, freeze well. Having a few extra frozen meals may come be very handy at some stage.
4. Stick with the Basics Here at The Yummy Mummy Club we think it’s essential to include a variety of foods and different meal options. However, with that being said, spending time crafting gourmet concoctions such as a fancy French toast with maple syrup and side of fresh fruit will make thing a for time costly and complicated. Our tip, rather save the decadence for a fresh meal.
