When it comes to starting a new fitness regime, I think it is fair to say that many of us may have started and then quit and restarted and then quit again. There are many reasons why we give up or stop. For some of us, we start a new diet or exercise plan and quit because we realise we cannot maintain it, while some of us quit these regimes because we get bored or feel like we do not get the results we were hoping for. But the major underlying reason for quitting, whether we are aware of it or not, is lack of motivation. So we have put together some Tips For Staying Motivated.
Tips For Staying Motivated
1. Set yourself a goal
You need to constantly remind yourself why you have started a new diet or fitness regime. By setting goals, and revisiting them can help you stay motivated. Start with simple goals. So for example if your goal is to exercise more, pick a day and a time that will become your ‘gym time’. Then you progress to two sessions a week and so on. Goals need to be realistic and achievable. If our goals are too ambitious we may lose motivation.
2. Make it fun
Just like there is no one diet that fits everyone, there is no one right exercise regime that is best suited for everyone either. So to make sure you stick to your exercise regime we suggest you make sure it is something you enjoy doing and looking forward to. Make it fun. Exercise doesn’t have to be boring, and here at The Yummy Mummy Club our classes are anything but boring… right mums?

3. Join forces with those who will support you
When it comes to wanting to get fit you are not alone. Working out with like minded individuals keeps you motivated, on track and liable to turn up. So buddy up.
4. Reward yourself
After a session where you have worked hard, reward yourself. Now I do not mean go and get yourself a chocolate bar from the super market after every session, although treats every now and then are okay. Rather, take a few minutes to savour the moment and the endorphins, the good mood and feelings you get from exercise. This type of reward is what we call ‘internal rewards’ which can help us stay motivated.
So remember, if you set your goals, making the realistic and fun, as well as surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals, our Tips For Staying Motivated will get you back on track in no time!
